Tanjung Lesung Special Economic Zone for Tourism is ready for Rhino Cross Triathlon, or Rhino X-Tri, set to be the first national cross triathlon in Indonesia. The cross triathlon comprises swimming, cycling, and running along Tanjung Lesung’s challenging yet captivating terrains, and is held from September 22 to 24, 2017. Rhino X-Tri is to become part of the grand Pesona Tanjung Lesung Festival and is jointly organized by Sunset Trail Run and Mountain Bike Cross Country Marathon (MTB XC) with hundreds of triathletes from several countries ready to participate.
As the form of support for the Banten Province’s strategic tourism agenda and the campaign Exciting Banten, Tourism Ministry along with Banten Provincial government and Pandeglang regency officially introduced Pesona Tanjung Lesung Festival and Rhino Cross Triathlon to the public at the Office of Tourism Ministry in Jakarta, [September 5, 2017].
President Director of PT. Banten West Java, the operator of Tanjung Lesung, PoernomoSiswoprasetijo said: “Banten Provincial government, together with the government of Pandeglang regency and BWJ, as the operator of Tanjung Lesung, are ready to hold and ensure the success of Pesona Tanjung Lesung Festival and Rhino X-Tri. These are such special and strategic double events, to introduce not only the beauty of the nature and the rich cultures of the people in Banten, but also cross triathlon to people in Indonesia and from other countries. Banten has its 7 Wonders of Banten that we want to introduce to as many people as possible, to domestic and international tourists. So, I’d like to use this opportunity to invite everyone to come to the event held from the 22nd to the 24th of September .” Besides Rhino X-Tri, Sunset Trail Run, and MTB XCM, Pesona Tanjung Lesung Festival will host various exciting, special and festive events, like Bebegig (Scarecrow) and Kolecer (Windmill) Festival, Banten-traditional food bazaar, 7 Wonders of Banten exhibition, as well as Pandeglang 10K. And everyone is invited to enjoy the beauty of Tanjung Lesung Beach and play standup paddle board, kayak, and joy sailing. All events are to hold at Tanjung Lesung Beach Club.
Rhino X-Tri, which is set to be the first cross triathlon, or off-road triathlon held in Indonesia, has garnered strong support from various parties interested in the development of triathlon not only in Indonesia but also in the world. Founder and General Manager of Asia Trail Master, Kris Van de Velde said: “I strongly recommend that everyone try the exciting challenges Rhino X-Tri has to offer as this is going to be the first major off-road triathlon in Indonesia. Besides off-road triathlon, running enthusiasts can also take part in Sunset Trail Run, while for cyclists, we have Mountain Bike Cross Country Marathon (MTB XCM) that they can compete in.”
Abdoullah Mitiche, a trail run athlete from Algeria also commented the event. He said Rhino X-Tri, Sunset Trail Run and MTB XCM present special challenges to athletes because of its location in Tanjung Lesung and its being the first one in the country. He stated that once he returned home from participating in Iron Man Race in Tennessee, USA, he’d get right on preparing for the event.
Rhino X-Tri’s Event Director, Tense Manalu said, “Rhino X-Tri is going to be an amazing competition. We encourage everyone, especially cycling, swimming and running enthusiasts, to participate and be a part of the history. Participating in this first-ever competition in Indonesia provides an opportunity to boost each individual skill and capability in beating the tracks. It is also a chance to enjoy the excitement on offer based on the passion each participant has.”
